Immigration Physical Exam in Memphis

If you're applying for a green card or adjusting your immigration status in the United States, one essential step in the process is completing an immigration medical examination. At GoodLife Medical Center in Memphis, we aim to make this requirement as smooth, affordable, and stress-free as possible.

As a certified USCIS Civil Surgeon location, we are fully authorized to conduct immigration physicals and complete the I-693 form. In this guide, we’ll walk you through what to expect, what to bring, and why GoodLife is a trusted provider for immigration exams in the Memphis area.

What Is an Immigration Physical Exam?

The immigration medical exam is a required step for anyone applying for a green card or permanent residency in the United States. It ensures that the applicant does not have any medical conditions that would make them inadmissible. The exam screens for communicable diseases, evaluates mental health conditions, ensures vaccination records are complete, and checks for any drug or alcohol abuse that could affect eligibility.

The exam must be conducted by a USCIS-designated Civil Surgeon, and the results are recorded on Form I-693, which is then submitted as part of your green card application.

Step-by-Step Breakdown of the Immigration Exam Process

Step 1: First Appointment – Document Collection & Lab Orders

During your first in-person appointment at GoodLife Medical Center:

  • Our staff will verify your identity and gather your required documentation.

  • We’ll check your immunization history against USCIS requirements and let you know if any vaccines are needed.

  • You'll receive a lab work order for tuberculosis (TB), gonorrhea, and syphilis testing.

  • Blood tests are done at AEL Lab, located at 2120 Exeter Rd., #110, Germantown, TN 38138.

  • Payment will be collected at this stage. We accept credit cards, cash, money orders, or cashier’s checks.

Step 2: Wait for Lab Results

Your lab results usually take 5–7 business days to process. Once received, our clinic will:

  • Review your test results

  • Contact you to confirm your second appointment if all requirements are met

  • Recommend follow-up or additional steps if needed (e.g., vaccines, further screening)

Step 3: Second Appointment – Medical Exam

During this appointment, our USCIS Civil Surgeon will:

  • Conduct a comprehensive physical examination

  • Review your mental and emotional health history

  • Review your immunization record and lab results

  • Address any red flags or needed treatments to ensure USCIS compliance

Once complete, the I-693 form will be filled out, signed by the Civil Surgeon, and sealed in an envelope per USCIS standards.

What Happens After Your Exam?

Once your medical examination is complete, we’ll provide:

  • A sealed envelope containing Form I-693 to submit to USCIS

  • A copy of the completed form for your personal records

  • Peace of mind, knowing your documentation is accurate, complete, and submitted correctly

What If You’re Missing Vaccines or Records?

Don’t worry. Many applicants lack complete vaccine documentation. We can:

  • Perform a titer test to check immunity

  • Offer referrals for any needed vaccinations

  • Help translate or interpret vaccine records, if required

We aim to reduce delays and ensure every step is handled efficiently.
